Spindle Bearing Selection

Spindle Bearing Selection

  • 2020/09/11

Spindle ball bearings are single-row angular contact ball bearings with a nominal contact angle of 15° or 25° - used in radial and (in one direction) axial loads.

spindle bearing design

Spindle Selection Elements:

1. Machine tool design generally meets the maximum cutting force of the machine tool as the first element. At the same time, factors such as the maximum cutting speed, maximum cutting torque, spindle rotation accuracy, machine tool structure requirements, processing materials, cutting conditions, etc. must be considered.

2. If you are not proficient in the design and calculation of the spindle, you can roughly calculate it from the tool tension on the spindle sample to ensure that the spindle can withstand the maximum cutting force. Generally, the tool tension is about twice the maximum axial cutting force that the spindle can withstand.

3. The highest speed commonly used during processing is not higher than 80% of the highest speed provided on the sample.

Pull stud type selection: The steel ball tensioning device is generally selected for spindles with a speed of less than 6000 rpm, and can also be used for low cutting forces; high-speed spindles above 8000 rpm and for powerful cutting should use four-jaw tensioning devices.

4. Spindle cooling selection: shaft diameter less than 70mm, maximum speed 8000rpm (discontinuous operation) can not be selected, high-precision machining center machine tools must be selected. The choice of cooling definition should be based on accuracy considerations, and try not to be based on damage considerations.

5. Medium spray function selection: machine tools for processing aluminum alloy, titanium alloy, and stainless steel are recommended, and machine tools for processing small holes and deep holes should be selected.

6. Air curtain protection function selection: generally should be selected, especially machine tools processing graphite materials, plastic materials, and aluminum alloy materials. The compressed air of the machine tools using this function must be dry, otherwise it will cause rust inside the spindle.

7. Selection of the tool loosening back button function: This function can protect the spindle bearing from the impact of the loose tool force and prolong the service life of the bearing.

8. For spindles with the same tapered bore, those with large outer diameters are often equipped with bearings with large steel balls or large ceramic balls, which have high rigidity, smooth cutting, and can withstand large cutting forces. They are generally used on high-power, powerful cutting machine tools.

9. When purchasing a spindle, it is best to let the supplier provide the transmission components and basic installation size requirements at the same time, so as to realize the complete supply and avoid errors.

10. Try to use the company's standard specifications of the spindle, the price is relatively low, and the delivery time is short.

The speed of high-speed spindle is mostly below 12000rpm, with 1000rpm being the most. It is used in the high-speed cutting and machining of light alloy and other materials. The spindle speed is more than 20,000 rpm. The tool holder specifications are commonly HSK-A63, and the larger workpieces are processed using HSK-A100.
